About the game
Learning about Irish Mythology
As foreigners living and studying in Ireland, this project is our way of engaging with the culture we’re surrounded by.
We aim to spark curiosity about Irish mythology and culture by presenting legends, creatures and places in a way that feels modern and immersive.
This way, our team hopes to give others an easy introduction to some of the characters of Irish mythology and make them want to explore more on their own.
The Game
Rian Éan (Bird Trail) is a 3D third-person narrative video game made in Unreal Engine. It focuses on storytelling, atmosphere, and visuals to create a captivating adventure-thriller.

The Process
For this game, we developed a production pipeline that integrated multiple industry-standard tools.
Unreal Engine functioned as the core production space, where we brought together gameplay systems, cinematic sequencing, lighting, and final scene assembly.
For character development, we began with MetaHumans as a high-fidelity base, but a significant part of the work involved extending them beyond their default setup. To achieve a more distinctive visual identity, we created custom hair and clothing in Maya.
The animation workflow added another technical layer to the game. Using Live Link, we streamed facial and performance data directly into Unreal Engine, allowing us to test expressive character animation in real time and refine scenes efficiently. Our environments were built in Blender before transferring them into Unreal for integration and optimisation.
